punctum books is looking for a Libraries Outreach Associate to the join the team, for a period of 17 months, working full time. The successful applicant will assist with punctum’s work on the Community-led Open Publishing Infrastructures for Monographs (COPIM) project, funded by Research England and the Arcadia Fund and led by the Centre for Postdigital Cultures, Coventry University, in collaboration with several world-class universities. The project addresses the key technological, structural, and organisational hurdles—around funding, production, dissemination, discovery, reuse, and archiving—that are standing in the way of the wider adoption and impact of open-access (OA) books (see the project website for more information: https://www.copim.ac.uk/).
The Libraries Outreach Associate will support the project team in relation to the Work Package titled ‘Revenue Infrastructures and Management Platform’. A key focus of the post is supporting the development of a pilot library revenue and membership scheme to better enable the integration of OA books into libraries. This will feature the ScholarLed group of open access publishers alongside other key stakeholders: https://scholarled.org/.
The main duties of the post holder will be as follows:
Conducting outreach to scholarly libraries in the US, with a view to understanding their needs relative to their potential financial support of OA book publishers, as well as generating awareness of the ScholarLed library membership scheme and the new platform being developed.
Engaging with ScholarLed publishers and other stakeholders connected to OA book publishing, in order to collate the evidence supporting a library membership platform that will be offered to libraries.
Writing up materials, relative to the ScholarLed membership scheme, aimed at a non-academic audience, including press releases, blog posts, and evidence-based case studies.
Contributing to reports to be sent to project partners and other stakeholders, in collaboration with the leads of the COPIM team working on Revenue Infrastructures.
Assisting with administrative duties, under the direction of the team leads.
Working on other ad hoc tasks relating to the COPIM project, as necessary.
Candidates should have demonstrable experience in and/or knowledge of scholarly libraries in the USA, as well as a graduate degree (Master’s degree or higher), preferably within the social sciences, publishing, the humanities, or library science, or equivalent professional experience. Essential skills include a familiarity with debates around Open Access publishing and experience in networking effectively with non-academic stakeholders, which will be required in the project’s outreach and engagement work. Additional desirable skills include knowledge of existing networks within the US scholarly libraries community, experience in designing and executing social media campaigns, and having a deep understanding of the contemporary context of Open Access book publishing or scholarly communications. The role may require travel within the US, although much of the role can be undertaken remotely.
